Shibui

A conceptual kitchen as a space object

Shibui

The project explores the kitchen as a sculptural spatial object, moving beyond its purely functional role. Inspired by origami geometry and the Japanese philosophy of Shibui - subtle beauty expressed through balance and restraint - the design embodies both simplicity and depth. The kitchen is crafted using the traditional burnt wood technique (Shou Sugi Ban), which enriches the material with durability, texture, and a striking dark finish. This choice not only highlights the dialogue between tradition and modernity but also reinforces the kitchen’s sculptural presence in space. Ultimately, Shibui is a study in balance, flow, and harmony, creating a kitchen that is at once practical, poetic, and timeless - the heart of the home reimagined as a spatial object.
